Choose the right model

Offline is a deliberate trade, not a universal upgrade.

A portable file-return workflow is valuable when upload avoidance and ownership matter. Hosted proofing is usually better when live collaboration, notifications, access control, and centralized operations matter.

Capability comparison

NeedOffline file-return packageHosted proofing platform
No vendor uploadCore strength; transfer is creator-controlled.Usually requires cloud upload.
Reviewer accountNot required.Guest access varies by service.
Real-time commentsNot available.Usually a core feature.
NotificationsManual transfer and follow-up.Usually automated.
Access revocationImpossible after a file is copied.Often supported.
Identity and activity logsNames and device times are unverified; no evidentiary audit trail is created.May offer accounts, roles, and server logs; guarantees vary.
Offline useSelf-contained HTML works after transfer. .reviewpack requires Reader to be loaded and cached first.Varies; often network-dependent.
SubscriptionDesigned for one-time downloadable licensing.Commonly recurring.
Data portabilityExplicit project, response, CSV, JSON, HTML, ZIP, and backup exports.Export capability varies.
Multi-reviewer reconciliationManual file import into independent round lanes; reports stay exact per distribution and bundle by selected round.Centralized and immediate.

Offline fits when

  • The creator does not want to upload unreleased still imagery to the product vendor.
  • The client cannot or will not create another account.
  • A project is small enough for portable review derivatives.
  • Review happens in distinct rounds rather than live conversation.
  • Exact asset, version, and page binding matters.
  • The creator prefers a one-time local tool and explicit, portable exports.

Hosted fits when

  • Many people comment simultaneously.
  • Automated reminders, routing, roles, and dashboards matter.
  • A share link must be revoked.
  • Verified account identity or server logs are required.
  • Video, audio, high-volume enterprise review, integrations, or client portals are central.
  • The team accepts the service's storage, subscription, and processing model.

A hybrid workflow is valid

The app can create structured local review artifacts while a creator uses an existing agreed transfer service. That service has its own privacy, security, retention, and account terms. This product does not monitor or certify the transfer channel.

The product competes on the file round trip.

It does not pretend to reproduce the hosted collaboration layer without a backend.
